Easy Ikea Step Stool Makeover

I can't believe it's Friday again! No complaints here! We are planning to work on our kitchen pretty late tonight and into the day tomorrow, but tomorrow night I have a hot date on the couch with some scary movies and snacks. Hopefully I'll be able to hand out candy to all the cute kiddos of the neighborhood!

We are finishing up our kitchen renovation and it feels pretty great. We still need to finish our island and backsplash, but thats really it. When I think of how far this kitchen has come I just smile. It's been such a labor of love, I cannot wait to see the end result.

So with the renovation we moved the cabinets up a little higher and now I can't reach everything as easy. I'm a decent height, coming in right under 5'8'', but I didn't want to have to struggle to get plates out of the cabinet every night for dinner. So I popped into Ikea for their $15 step stool I've had my eye on for some time now.

Honestly, I didn't do much. I planned to stain it, paint it and then distress it, but once I got the stain on it just looked so darn charming I couldn't make myself touch it! I stained it with Minwax Early American. I can't get away from this stain lately, it's so light and pretty. It reminds me of the color of honey. I then used my newest calligraphy font I got for free on Pinterest to stencil in the numbers. I distressed the edges just a little and that was it! I think the hardest part of this whole project was putting the dang stool together. Darn you, Ikea!! I do plan to do a coat or two of polyurethane because I know it will probably get splashed a lot being so close to the sink. I did add some felt pads to the bottom (which I need to cut down because they look kind of dorky right now ;) so I can kick and move the stool anywhere without worrying about scratches to the floor.

Here is a quick before and after:

Oh and could you just die with the cabinet sneak peak? I am so happy we decided on gray instead of white. I love the color so much. I hope you guys have a fun and safe weekend! I'm looking forward to seeing all of the cheesy family costumes you all have set out for tomorrow. :p By the way, that was not a jab, I can't wait to be that mom one day so right now I just dress up my dog. ha!

Happy Halloween! Xo
