Dare to DIY Placemat Pillow

Hi everyone!!!! I am so excited about being apart of this blog party!!! It's my first one ever! I'm also nervous. I have that 'what if I suck at decorating and nobody has had the guts to tell me and I'm about to make a fool out of myself'' feeling in the pit of my stomach. You know, kind of like stage fright?! Only blog fright.  But I did it! I'm here and there's no backing out now. :p

I am a dedicated stalker of Michelle from Decor and the Dog. I love that girl. She has been my 'blog mentor' since I started this blog not long ago and has really helped me get my blog up and running. I'm sure I would have quit by now without her! With that being said, she told me if I didn't participate she would stalk me and she probably wouldn't be my blog mentor anymore. So. Here I am. All for Michelle. ha! ;)

OK! Now that all that's out of the way. I'm excited to share my project with everyone! I was inspired from this photo I found on Pinterest:

You know, it's so easy to sit around a table on Thanksgiving and talk about what you're thankful for. But when March comes around and I find myself complaining about my wardrobe and unfinished kitchen, and car that's not as nice as my neighbors etc, that's when I need a little extra help. Lots of people are sitting around with a lot less than what we have and are completely content. I wanted to make something that could remind me to have a thankful heart all year long! So I went to my favorite place to get some inspiration. Target! After I stopped by Starbucks to get a Salted Carmel Hot Cocoa, of course. I have an addiction. And I need help.

Anyway. I found this super cute placemat. I have a crush on the color grey. In a room full of colors my eyes always head towards grey. So I just knew I had to have this one! Although, I wasn't planning to use it for a placemat.

So I made THIS!

Have you seen the price of decorative pillows?! Yeah. Me no likey. This bad boy cost me 6 bucks. The placemat was $3.99 I bought some cotton batting for the inside for $2.00. I used some stensils and old cream paint we had leftover from our bedroom project. Seam ripped one short side after the paint dried and sewed it back up after I stuffed it with the batting.

It helps when you have a cute project manager!
This is what I came up with:

I wish I would have used a little more batting, but I ran out and was too lazy to get anymore. I still like it though! So when March rolls around and I'm not feeling as thankful as I should, I'm hoping seeing this pillow may give me a little boost.

Hudson's feeling more thankful already!

Thanks for stopping by my little ol blog! I can't wait to go check out all the other projects! :)

  3. Oh my goodness, I totally have a crush on your bedroom. I love the colors, I love the headboard, the little bench at the end of the bed, the mirror. Love it all. And the pillow idea is genius! Great job being thrifty--I hate spending a lot of money on seasonal decorations that you won't get to use for terribly long. But your pillow is perfect any time of year! Awesome work, and thanks so much for joining in!
